Clara Manzano and Laurencia Martínez showed that sport has no age and that boxing is a great option to stay active.
Enthusiasts joined the fitness boxing class in Alameda de León. Clara, 61 years old, with an affinity for karate, adjusted her bag on her back and deftly followed the instructions of Rosy Olvera, in charge of the activation; Likewise, Laurencio, 67 years old, saw that people were getting together for sports and when he saw that it was a boxing session, he did not hesitate to start following the exercises.
“I have always liked sports, I practiced karate many years ago and now as an adult I joined a group to stay active. When I was young at 16 I could no longer continue with karate, but years later I decided to practice it again and I managed to become a green belt; Now that I passed by and saw that they were giving boxing classes, I didn’t think twice. I really liked it and I hope that here in Oaxaca boxing is seen more,” Mrs. Clara said excitedly.
“I have liked boxing for many years, I remember Rubén Olivares, José ‘Mantequilla’ Nápoles and David ‘Macetón’ Cabrera, they were my favorite boxers; “This sport is ‘really’ because the shots are clean and the rules are clear,” said Don Laurencio.
This cycle of activities is part of the strategy of the World Boxing Council and the Government of Oaxaca prior to the historic #CampeonesDeLaGuelaguetza card to promote the values inherent to boxing.
