There are numerous warning signs that may indicate that someone is involved in a bullying environment, either as a bully or as a bullied.
Recognizing the red flags is an important first step in acting against bullying. Not all children who are bullied or who bully others ask for help.
Some signs:
* Memory problems, difficulty on focusing, attention and drop in school performance.
* Irritability, lack of appetite, headache, general malaise, tiredness, choking sensation.
* Difficulties sleeping, nightmares or insomnia.
* Social isolation, apathy and introversion.
* Stay on alert constantly.
* Not wanting to go to school, or hang out with other children.
* Escape and avoidance behaviors.
* Denial of facts and inconsistencies.
* Uncontrolled crying, extreme emotional responses.
* Fear of losing control or being alone.
* Symptoms such as tremors, palpitations, restlessness, nervousness, pessimism, etc.
* Suicidal ideas and attempts.
These warning signs can also reveal other problems, such as depression or substance abuse. Talking with the child can help identify the root of the problem and avoid unfortunate consequences.
