Being inducted into the Hall of Fame was a sporting achievement that sealed the great career of former world champion Ana María Torres, but the satisfaction that captured her heart was the championship that her sons Cristobal and Julio achieved in the Mexican baseball League.
At Martes a Cafe, this love for boxing was shared by the great feeling that baseball awakens in Ana María., who exclaimed: “For me, today is important because having reached the Hall of Fame was very special, but also, my children are here and that they have conquered the trophy in its category, which is even happier.
”I want to thank all the people who supported me and encouraged me, my mother, my in-laws, my brothers, my family, my husband, the World Boxing Council, and Don José. Also, to my compadres Christiane and Mauricio.” Ana María mentioned all of this with gratitude, reinforced with a big smile.
At the Martes de Cafe press conference, there was a baseball theme and Jill Diamond, president of WBC Cares, and Christiane Manzur, president of WBC Cares Mexico, were proud of Ana María’s sporting achievements, but even more so for being a great example of a mother and wife, as the family that is the most important nucleus in life and that WBC Cares also promotes.
“It is an honor to be here today with Ana and celebrate with her induction into the Hall of Fame, it is also a great pleasure to be with my godchildren, for Mauricio and I it is a great responsibility to be the godparents and today to see them happy and with this trophy. It means a lot as a family.
”It is very important that the practice of sport is encouraged in the family because it is health and well-being,” said Christiane.
For her part, Jill Diamond said “I am very happy because I am in Mexico and also happy because today boxing and baseball come together.”
Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the WBC, showed his joy and reiterated the recognition that one of the most transcendental female figures in Mexican and world boxing deserves.
