Former two-division world champion Badou “The Ripper” Jack defeated Congolese Ilunga Makabu by TKO in round 12 to win the World Boxing Council cruiserweight title this Sunday at Arena Diriyah in Riyadh, Arabia Arabia.
Jack, 39, outclassed Makabu by showing greater speed and more accurate and effective boxing. Jack dropped Makabu in the fourth round and although Makabu tried from various angles to land his power punches, Jack showed his expertise in dodging the attacks.
Jack dropped Makabu again in round 11. In round 12, with Makabu helpless on the ropes under intense pressure from another attack, Referee Mark Lyson stepped in to stop the fight.
Jack has become a three-weight world champion after successes at super middleweight and light heavyweight.
With the victory, Jack improved his record to 28-3-3, with 17 knockouts, while Makabu dropped to 29-3, 25 knockouts.
