Anthony Olascuaga and Chicanito Hernandez, what do these two fighters have in common? A key piece to both, Rudy Hernandez. Eight years ago, our dear friend, Rudy Hernandez, brother of the late Chicanito Hernandez introduced us to a young kid, Anthony “La Princesa” Olascuaga, only sixteen years old at the time. It was an afternoon of the very first Green Belt Challenge in Los Angeles, CA. An Amateur show that has gained such importance in the the Amateur Boxing Community. Rudy Hernandez trains professional fighters but took the time to take a few young Amateurs to the three day show, which is where he introduced us to Anthony.
“Don’t forget his name, this kid is special.” said Rudy Hernandez to the Green Belt Challenge team. Sure enough, he competed in the 1st Annual WBC Amateur Green Belt Challenge and won! He proudly displayed his medal with an image of our lifetime President, Don José Sulaimán on it and wearing his red tank top which said, “Keeping his dream alive” Don José loved the Amateurs and it was his dream to see young kids like Anthony Olascuaga have a successful Amateur career then one day become World Champions. Anthony told us that’s his dream, to one day become a World Champion.
That opportunity came to him as he was offered to fight the Amazing Boy, Kenshiro Teraji, as a late replacement for Jonathan Gonzalez who sustained an injury during camp. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and he took it, now the day is here to fight for the Green and Gold Belt he once said he wanted to win.
Don’t underestimate Anthony Olascuaga, with a record of 5-0, 3 KOs this fighter has been sparring with Champions since he was a teenager. Champions like Carlos Cuadras, Chocolatito Gonzalez, Joselito Velazquez and even Kenshiro Teraji himself. Olascuaga has a great talent and a great opportunity this weekend in Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan to get that World Title, just like one day he got that WBC Amateur medal that was only the beginning of his Boxing career.
