The First WBC Latin American Amateur Boxing Tournament proved a significant success
After seven fantastic amateur fights, the continental tournament organized by the WBC concluded.
This contest was held at the Camboriú spa, in Santa Catarina, Brazil, from September 27 to 30. In the closing ceremony, an emotional tribute was paid to Eder Jofre.
Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil were the participating countries in this exciting amateur boxing match that featured more than 40 athletes who fought for the Green and Gold belt. The supervision and control was in charge of the Conselho Nacional De Boxe (CNB), represented by its authorities: Mike Miranda Jr., Geyza Caryny and Mike Miranda.
Seven exciting fights were the last actions of a week that will remain in the memory of all: participants, authorities and the general public. Athletes from Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico and Argentina were the protagonists of this great boxing final in Rio de Janeiro. Ecuador reached the semifinals in some categories.
This amateur tournament had several important advances, among them: the registration in Boxrec of all the fights, to the live broadcast of the final fights through Golden Boy.
The event was sponsored by ADIDAS Combat Sports & Mundo Combate, whose managers, Leonardo Adami and Kyra Hsia, were present on all the competition dates. The former world champion Acelino “Popo” Freitas and the WBC Latin champion, Lila Furtado, were part of the tournament.
Names like Radija Da Silva Gama (Brazil), Adriana Thalia Piñeiro Ferre (Uruguay), Elizabeth Luciana Cabrera Carreras (Uruguay), Mirelly Raiza Rodrigues Alves (Brazil), Ederson Oliveira Nones (Brazil), Inti Sebastián Gómez García (Uruguay), Dylan Ariel Barretto (Argentina), Arilson Da Silva Gonçalves (Brazil), Juan Manuel Albornoz (Argentina)
vs. Jesús Alexis González Espinoza (Mexico), Weslley Ferreira Da Silva (Brazil),
Alexis Miguel Boga Sosa (Uruguay), Marcelo Emiliano Ferreira Iglesias (Uruguay), and Alisson Silva Do Monte (Brazil), will go down in the history of the WBC Amateur for being its very first finalists, and will also remain in the memory of those present for the quality shown in the ring.
There was also group recognition, the belt for the trainer of the best team went to the Brazilian Jefferson Acacio.
In the closing ceremony of the tournament, a warm tribute was paid to Eder Jofre, the Golden Rooster, a Brazilian figure with world significance. On his behalf there was Andrea Jofre, his daughter, who received a minibelt from the hands of the WBC representative, Marcos Arienti. Sadly the former world champion passed 24 hours. later.
