At the Mexico´s City Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Ms. Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez and the President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman signed an agreement that will bring vital benefit to Mexican society and the security forces who aim to prevent drug addiction.
The event counted on the participation of various personalities from both the security union and the world of boxing, among them: Humberto Gonzalez, Carlos Zarate, Pipino Cuevas, Rafael Limón, Carlos Cuadras, Irma Garcia, Erika Cruz, Maria Elena Villalobos, Victor Rabanales, Isaac “Tortas” Bustos, Judith Rodriguez, David Picasso and Ciro Nucci.
Carlos Zarate and Carlos Cuadras talked about the importance of this type of initiative since they themselves were prey to this terrible enemy. Carlos said he`s a first-hand witness to the sheer hell of drugs. Both said that drugs can reduce people to unimaginable extremes and even causing death. It was difficult for them to get ahead but thanks to the help of their WBC family managed to recover; however, unfortunately not everyone gets out of that hell, which is why it is important to have and/or strengthen prevention programs.
Ms. Velázquez welcomed the entire boxing family and thanked everyone for their presence and willingness to be part of this program, but especially the President of the WBC, since his presence and a previous chat, made them notice she shared school with relatives of Don José Sulaimán, a man she admired and admires because his of his commitment with sports, education and society.
During her participation, the Secretary outlined and underlined that one of the Security strategies gives priority to a very important matter: the corrosive effect linked to the consumption of narcotics, which according to official statistics, exacerbates the rates of violence among young people.
She applauded this great initiative that aims to establish cooperation mechanisms in order to develop prevention and care programs where sport is one of the ways to steer young people away from the wrong path.
She praised the work that Mauricio Sulaimán has done at the head of the WBC, as she assured that he faithfully follows in his father’s footsteps, as well as the champions who met today not only to witness this form of agreement but also to share their own experiences.
For Mauricio Sulaimán, this is a historic day because it means continuing to work, furthering his father’s dream. Inspired and honoured to be able to work together with the Secretary because he assured that boxing is a key enabling solution for addictions and to violence prevention.
