The World Boxing Council, interim middleweight champion from the Dominican Republic, Carlos Adames, will defend his title against American Julian Williams in the main event of a card that will take place on June 24 at The Armory in Minneapolis; and that will be presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
Adames (22-1, 17 KOs) will make the first defense of the WBC interim championship, which he won when he knocked out Mexican Juan Macías Montiel (23-6-2, 23 KOs) in the third round, on October 8 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Williams of Philadelphia will be fighting for the second time at middleweight when he challenges Adames. The former 154-pound champion recently defeated Argentine Rolando Mansilla (18-12-1, 8 KOs) by eight-round unanimous decision on November 5.
“Caballo Bronco” Adames, who is doing a great preparation for this important fight, seeks to continue making boxing history.
“I want to make history for my country, I want to be great like Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Carlos Monzón, Roberto Durán, Roy Jones Junior and Bernard Hopkins were, that’s why I am very focused and training hard,” said Adames. .
“I recognize the quality of Williams, titles are not given away, he was a champion, and he is a man who is imposed on these stages, he is hungry and knows what a victory against me means, but he points the other way, I am focused and I thirst to make history in this sport.”.
