Featherweight prospect Adam Lopez (14-2, 6 KOs), in his first fight since his loss against Oscar Valdez last year, captured the NABF Featherweight title.
He defeated Louie Coria by majority decision, in a close and highly entertaining fight this Thursday at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. On a card presented by TOP RANK and broadcast on ESPN.
Coria (12-3, 7 KOs) jumped on Lopez early, closing down the distance, backing him up, then letting his hands go. Coria took control in the first two rounds with his constant aggressiveness.
Then López and his corner made necessary adjustments. He started using his jab and countering Coria appreciably more frequently.
Down the stretch, Lopez wrested control. But Coria never gave up and continued attacking until the very last moment. After 10 rounds, the judges had the fight 96-94, 96-94 and 95-95 in favor of López.
