One million people mobilized to commemorate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, thanks to the actions undertaken by the Alfredo Harp Helu Foundation for Sport, in coordination with the Federal Government and the Government of Mexico City, which they welcomed the date.
“Mexico has been an important asset in this celebration promoted by the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization,” said Olympic medalist Dr. Daniel Aceves Villagrán, director of the FAHH for Sport, the main organizer of the commemoration activities in Mexico.
Aceves highlighted that in this 2023, there were a million people who mobilized around the International Sports Day, in 55 historical and emblematic monuments of Mexico, from the Angel of Independence, the Theater of Bellas Artes, the Zócalo with its flagpole in the background, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, the Palace of Mineria, the Latin American Tower and more.
The monuments that were also visited were the Pachuca Towe, Hidalgo, magical towns such as Metepec, the Olympic Stadium in Ciudad Universitaria and the UNAM Rectory, where the participants showed their white cards and on this occasion the use of a mask was added. of fighter identified as a national identity press with the emblem of Peace and Sport.
This number was achieved thanks to the Foundation’s allies such as the Olympic, Paralympic and professional movement, including the World Boxing Council, the World Wrestling Council, the Mexican Baseball League, the Mexican Soccer Federation, of course. the Government of Mexico; the Association of Mexican Olympics, Olympic Medalists of Mexico, among others.
“In this commemoration, the fundamental message is to promote sports and physical culture, the prevention and care of addictions, a culture of self-care for health and a civic culture of promotion of peace,” said Aceves Villagrán.
Peace and Sport is the international organization that leads the commemoration of the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace that takes place every April 6, coinciding with the opening date of the first Olympic Games in Athens, in the modern era, on April 6, 1896.
On August 23, 2013, the United Nations Organization proclaimed April 6 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace to recognize the positive role of sport and physical activity in the lives of people in everyone.
