Unified WBC, WBA and IBF champion, Jermell Charlo, and the WBO champion Brian Castaño, rematch ON Saturday, May 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.
charlo vs. Castaño II was previously announced for March 19 but was rescheduled after Brian sustained an injury at his training camp.
Charlo and Castaño squared off for an exciting 12 rounds on July 17, 2021, ending in a split decision draw. Each fighter believed he had done enough to raise his hand in the first fight and in this bout, they will seek to leave no doubt.
Houston’s Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KOs) became a unified champion in September 2020, dropping Jeison Rosario three times on his way to an eighth-round knockout.
Castaño, 32, (17-0-2, 12 KOs), put on a spectacular performance to become world champion in February 2021, dominating Brazilian Patrick Teixeira.
“I am the unified champion and I have business to finish. My total goal as a kid was to win every belt as a pro and I plan to make history once again on May 14, in front of my fans and around the world. If you know me, you know that I don’t take opportunities lightly. Now is the time. Be sure to tune in on May 14,” said Charlo.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to face Charlo again for all four titles. This is champion against champion, as it should be. The first fight was a great war. The rematch will be no different, but this time I won’t leave it up to the judges,” Castaño commented.
The fight is promoted by Premier Boxing Champions and will be broadcast on Showtime.
