After two years of absence from our Amateur Show, we’re finally back with a bang in legendary East LA, the quintessential Angelino boxing neighborhood.
Together with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the Alhambra Youth Boxing Club and thorugh fights sanctioned by USA Boxing, the show had 140 fights in three days of competition, with 2 Elite fights, one for boys and one for girls, with the most outstanding youngsters of the region, as well as the fight for the “Courage Belt” belt dedicated to young people who have overcome adversities in life.
This show was a family event with no cost to all participants. Great idols of the ring always come to the competition, current and past champions, Mark Magsayo, Israel Vázquez, Michael Nunn, Jesús “Chiquito” Haro, Alexis Rocha, Vergil Ortiz and many others, were part of this edition´s show.
We receive boxers from different states of the country, Arizona, Florida, Chicago, New Mexico and different regions of California. All participants receive an official fight shirt, WBC Watape, a bag with gifts and everyone who gets in the ring, receives a WBC medal, no matter how many times they get up to fight, many end up with 3 medals on their chest.
In this show, 9 Belts were awarded, 2 Elite, 1 “Courage Belt” 4 men and 2 women. The selection committee for the winners of the belts is made up of USA Boxing and people we select to help us determine the best ones who, by the way, do not necessarily win it by the number of fights won, their behavior in the 3 days, the collaboration with teammates outside the ring and his willingness to make the Green Belt Challenge event the best it can be. This year’s winners are:
Men’s Elite Fight: Joseph Abudy
Women’s Elite Fight: Maya Hernandez
Courage Belt: Joaquin Lopez
The 4 young people are: Criztec Bazaldua, Abel Alba, Marquez Tovar and Moises Saldaña
The 2 young women: Ciana Chávez and Guiselle Luján
Elvis Grant donated a pair of his famous gloves and designer of outfits for famous boxers and athletes “IGMOB”, donated 7 suits to young participants in the tournament, War Tape provided bandage tape for all participants.
With an excellent team of volunteers who gave their time and work to make the event unforgettable, a team of doctors that this year was led by the President of the WBC medical committee, Dr. Wallace, the help of the department of the Sheriff of Los Angeles and the attendance of more than a thousand people, the 6th Green Belt Challenge returned with a bang and has positioned itself as one of the most important shows in the United States.
