1927.- The great Tony Canzoneri, who won three world titles (featherweight, lightweight and super lightweight,) failed in his first opportunity to win the crown, drawing in 10 rounds with Charles “Bud” Taylor in fight for the vacant bantamweight championship, which was held at the Chicago Coliseum. The Referee was Joe Choynski and the battle was promoted by Jim Mullen. In the tiebreaker, three months later, Taylor was crowned winning by unanimous decision at Wrigley Field in the same windy city.
1983.- At the Chungmu Gymnasium in Daejeon, South Korea, the local fighter Jungkoo Chang knocked out Panamanian Hilario Zapata in the third round. In this fight the WBC light flyweight title was at stake.
