Punctuated by Juan Manuel Márquez and Jorge “Travieso” Arce, the list of nominees for the 2020 class of the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York is announced.
“Dinamita” Marquez fought for the last time in May 2014. He`s especially remembered for the one punch KO of Manny Pacquiao in 2012, and was world champion in the feather, super feather, light and super light divisions.
Arce is another of the Mexicans who appears on the ballot… a spirited fighter who conquered five world titles.
Two great Mexican pioneers are also included on the list: Laura Serrano, one of the pioneers in women’s pugilism in her country, and the former world champion, Ana María “Guerrera” Torres, in addition to coach Abel Sánchez.
Other prominent boxers to enter the International Boxing Hall of Fame are the Americans Bernard Hopkins, who made 20 defenses of the middleweight title and retired in 2016, and Shane Mosley, considered among the best pound per pound boxers of his time.
The Argentine fighter Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez, the Americans Timothy Bradley, Diego Corrales and Antonio Tarver, Englishman Carl Froch, Cuban Joel Casamayor and South African Vuyani Bungu are also on the list.
Members of the Association of Boxing Writers of America and international boxing historians will send their votes and the results will be announced in early December.
