In order to retain the tradition, WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, joined with the specialized press to talk about different topics, one of them the documentary “Romanza” a tribute to Don Nacho Beristaín and of course to the gym where various champions have flourished.
Jorge Guaregui from “Ojo Rojo Films” was a special guest to tell us a little more about this documentary, which arises from the need to tell social, cultural and sports tales. The idea is to make visible the stories of those young people who became champions, because behind a championship there is sacrifice and dedication.
Jáuregui commented that the production team of “Ojo Rojo Films” invested their savings, and are extremely happy with the final result. The documentary, made in the Romanza, in the State of Mexico and in California, United States, included the participation of Rey Vargas, Eduardo “Canilla” Escobedo, Dante “Crazy” Jardón, Jazmín Martínez and “Nacho” Beristaín.
Another important issue was the start of activities for boxing, after the announcement of the promoter Top Rank that will have closed-door cards on June 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mauricio stressed that activities will have to start again; However, this implies a great effort on the part of all those involved and understanding that things cannot be as before, that in order to carry out a card it is imperative to guarantee the health of all those involved.
He assured that the WBC will support all the promoters who want to return boxing to the arenas, but if it will be important to minimize the number of people, even the possibility of having distance judges is being analyzed, all of the above is being studied. The WBC is getting creative and innovative so that the activity does not stop.
He commented that the protocol designed by the WBC, is prepared by experts from all countries, commissioners and doctors who have put their experience in this document that begins with a detailed questionnaire that will give the risk index, that is, that anyone who attends that fight must fill it out and from there it will be known if he is fit to go to the event or not.
Mauricio commented that there will be a meeting with the small promoters to analyze the options to give opportunity to the fighters of 4 and 6 rounds, because they are the most affected since, most of them live day by day, they box to earn money and not having activity will force them to look for other options.
He added that the José Sulaimán Fund authorized an amount to help boxers who are going through a difficult situation with food.
On other issues, we were accompanied by the FECARBOX champion, Bryan Acosta, who in recent days was violently assaulted in his apartment , where he was cleared of all his belongings, including his belt that he won on March 7, defeating his countryman Jesús Ortega by unanimous decision in Hermosillo, Sonora.
For Bryan this was a very traumatic moment; however, he said that the only thing he cared about was his belt. He thanked Rafael Soto and of course the World Boxing Council, because with their help he can recover the belt
In addition, thanks to the ADIDAS team, so he didn’t have to stop his quest of becoming a world champion.
