In a landmark achievement for Taiwanese boxing, the island nation celebrated its inaugural WBC Amateur event with resounding success. Held in Taichung, Taiwan, the event witnessed a thrilling display of talent and determination from aspiring young boxers across the country.
One of the highest points of the event was the victory of Taiwanese boxer Shiao-Yang Kang in the 60kg boxing match on Saturday. “I am very excited to win this match,” expressed Kang at the conclusion of the bout.
Kristin Chen, representing the Chinese Taipei Boxing Federation, emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating, “This is the very first time for Taiwan to host a WBC Amateur event.” The event marked a historic milestone for the Taiwanese boxing community.
A total of 18 promising young men applied to participate in the event, representing counties and cities across northern, central, and southern Taiwan. Divided into Junior (15 to 16 years old) and Youth (17 to 18 years old) categories, the boxers competed in four bouts and five bouts respectively, demonstrating their skill and determination in the ring.
All participating boxers successfully passed the weigh-in on their first attempt, adhering to competition regulations and displaying their commitment to the sport. Once inside the ring, they exhibited bravery and aggressiveness, captivating spectators with their impressive performances.
“We are very impressed and touched by the success of the event,” remarked Mr. Wang, Secretary of the Chinese Taipei Boxing Federation, reflecting on the event’s significance and impact. The overwhelming response and enthusiasm from participants and spectators alike underscored the event’s status as a monumental achievement for Taiwanese boxing.
