January 2024

When I say that boxing never ends is because there are always new talents, somewhere on the planet there is a brutal prospect working every day to be discovered, the story of Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez is a clear example of this, “Bam” was in Light flyweight a week before fighting against Carlos Cuadras for the Super Flyweight world title, he was ready, even to move up 2 divisions and give a memorable fight, without a doubt one of the pleasant surprises that boxing has given us.
Today I bring you a list of 5 fighters that you should follow in order to be up to date with the new stars of world boxing.

1.- William Zepeda
“El Camaron” Zepeda is an impressive boxer, I never get tired of writing about him and he has everything a high level fighter needs, the amount of punches he throws per fight is impressive, I still remember when he made his first appearance in USA on the Wild Card Boxing, After that he fought against Hector Tanajara, he was going as the prey, but Zepeda did nothing but destroy the Golden Boy prospect, in this way he became the young jewel of Mexican boxing.
I am sure that in 2024 “El camarón” will win the world crown, he has everything to stand out far above the big names in the lightweight division.

2.- Giovanni Santillan
He is not exactly the young promise of boxing, but his quality is undeniable, Santillan has an undefeated record of 32 wins, he has important names in his record and I can say that after fighting DeMarco he has completely changed his boxing, this year can be fundamental in Giovanni’s career and I know he can stand out in a division that is complicated.

3.- Richard Torrez
Torrez is a real threat in the heavyweight division, he has 8 wins, all by KO. Silver medalist in the 2020 Olympics Torrez came to pay-per-view boxing to knock out all the opponents that have been put in front of him, what I like about him is that he keeps his camp in USA Boxing, the USA Olympic team, Torrez must exploit the 2024 to look for good names in the division and begin to stand out in the eyes of the world.

4.- Jose Salas
The “Chapulin” Salas is the young promise of Tijuana, in the boxing camps he is also known as “Chapuchenko” that says a lot, Salas is a young boxer who is climbing step by step, he is young and has impeccable quality, he closed the year as sparring partner of Naoya Inoue and I am sure that 2024 will be a year full of opportunities for the young boxer from Tijuana, he has the right projection and boxing to stand out among the big names of 2024.

5.- Erik Badillo
He may be the least known name on this list, but in terms of quality he is on par with all of them, with an intelligent boxing and an undefeated record of 13-0 the jump abroad is imminent.
Badillo has the quality to make a name for himself in the mini flyweight division and compete with the best names in the division, his southpaw guard and impeccable footwork does not leave out the punch and speed that characterizes him. I am sure that in 2024 he will be one of the most talked about names in Mexican boxing.

This list is short, but I sought to place boxers from both sides, those who already have the spotlight on them and those who are ready to explode in 2024, all young and ready to give us top quality boxing.
