Southpaw Wilfredo “Bimbito” Méndez (18-2, 6KOs), aged twenty-six from Caguas, Puerto Rico, is ready to dispute the WBC interim straw title, next Sunday, April 16, against Japan`s Yudai Shigeoka.
It`s at Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium in Tokyo organized by Japanese promoter Koki Kameda, and will be broadcast live on ABEMA TV in Japan.
Puerto Rican Wilfredo Méndez replaced the WBC straw world champion, the Thai Panya Pradabsri, who had scheduled the fight but for health reasons it was impossible to defend his title.
“When my manager told me about this fight in Japan for the WBC interim world title, I immediately decided to accept this great opportunity to be a champion. Before my fight with Shigeoka took place, I was training, so I am in great physical condition for this important commitment,” Mendez commented.
For Puerto Rican Mendez, this will be his second fight in Japan. His most recent fight was in November 2022 at the Carlos Teo Cruz Coliseum in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he defeated the Mexican Moisés Caro by UD.
