Jose Carlos Ramirez vs. Richard Commey in WBC eliminator<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The former super lightweight world champion, Californian Jos\u00e9 Carlos Ram\u00edrez, will face the also former champion Richard Commey, in a 140-pound elimination bout, endorsed by the World Boxing Council, on Saturday at the Save Mart Arena in Fresno, California.<\/p>\n

Ramirez (27-1, 17 KOs), of Avenal, Calif., returns to Save Mart Arena, which has hosted six of his previous fights. Following his 2021 decision loss to Josh Taylor for the undisputed super lightweight title. Ram\u00edrez rebounded in March of last year with a unanimous decision victory over former champion Jos\u00e9 Pedraza.<\/p>\n

He has been among the top 140-pounders in the sport since winning the WBC world title over Amir Imam in March 2018. After defending that title twice, Ramirez defeated Maurice Hooker to unify the WBC and WBO titles. Ramirez retained both belts with a hard-fought majority decision over Viktor Postol in August 2020, a win that set up the showdown with Taylor.<\/p>\n

Commey (30-4-1, 27 KOs), from Accra, Ghana, made a name for himself as one of the best lightweights in the sport, earning commonwealth honors before capturing the IBF world title in February 2019.<\/p>\n

Commey’s lightweight career ended with a December 2021 decision loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko. Last August, in his super lightweight debut, he tied in a close fight against Jos\u00e9 Pedraza.
\nThe fight, which is promoted by Top Rank and DiBella Entertainment, will be broadcast on ESPN.<\/p>\n
