Mexican Raul \u201cRat\u00f3n\u201d Macias receives OLY posthumous certificate<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

The legendary boxer and beloved idol of national and international boxing, Ra\u00fal \u201cRat\u00f3n\u201d Mac\u00edas, is awarded with the OLY certificate, a distinction granted for having represented Mexico in the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within the framework of the Ordinary General Assembly of the Association of Mexican Olympians, it was where relatives of the former boxer born in Guanajuato, but living in Tepito, Mexico City, since childhood, received the documents from the Olympic medalist Jes\u00fas Mena Campos.<\/span><\/p>\n

His wife, Yolanda Calder\u00f3n, and his children, Arturo and Yolanda Mac\u00edas Calder\u00f3n, attended the Assembly last Saturday in the dining room of the Mexican Olympic Sports Center, which was attended by Daniel Aceves Villagr\u00e1n, promoter of the award ceremony; Carlos Padilla Becerra, permanent member of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) and Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Alcal\u00e1, president of the COM.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI had a pleasant friendship with Ra\u00fal, with whom I lived great moments. He was a great character and part of the popular culture of our country. He was always a dignified man, who knew that the people loved him, that’s why he traveled by subway with his guayabera. Everyone recognized him and everyone asked him for photos and he never refused,” said Carlos Padilla Becerra, former president of COM and friend of the legendary former boxer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ra\u00fal \u201cRat\u00f3n\u201d Mac\u00edas was a famous Mexican boxer, who obtained the World Bantamweight Championship in 1955, a true idol when the broadcasts of his fights were on the radio and thrilled all of Mexico. The country came to a standstill!<\/span><\/p>\n

His daughter Yolanda Mac\u00edas thanked the great tribute paid by the Mexican Olympic family. \u201cIt has been 13 years since his passing and my father was a great athlete, always accompanied by his phrase, I owe everything to my manager and to the Virgin of Guadalupe. He was a Central American and Pan American medalist.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This is a recognition that gives prestige and dignity to those who have lived through the Olympic movement,” said Aceves Villagr\u00e1n.<\/span><\/p>\n
