WBC\u2019s Official Position Concerning Boxing in Russia and Belarus<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The WBC’s Board of\u00a0Governors has reviewed the situation concerning boxing in Russia and Belarus in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which began in\u00a0February of 2022.<\/p>\n

Soon after Russia invaded Ukraine, the WBC made a provisional ruling with views of reviewing the WBC\u2019s position, if necessary at this Convention, depending on the \u00a0overall situation and current status of the invasion.<\/p>\n

The WBC\u2019s provisional ruling included two decisions:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The WBC would not sanction any fight within\u00a0the territory of Russia or Belarus.<\/li>\n
  2. The WBC would\u00a0not sanction any fight involving any boxer from either of those two \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 countries.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Russia\u2019s military invasion has halted all boxing activity in Ukraine. \u00a0Many sports complexes and\u00a0gymnasiums have been destroyed and Ukraine\u2019s population, including athletes, live in a constant threat\u00a0bombings and deadly attacks in their soil.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0The WBC stands for human equality, respect, and peace. \u00a0Historically\u00a0The WBC has rejected any type of\u00a0discrimination or abuse of power. \u00a0The WBC Constitution’s Code of Ethics outlines the\u00a0respect that must be afforded to all national\u00a0laws of any country affiliated to\u00a0the WBC.<\/p>\n

    It is unfortunate that the WBC\u2019s position has resulted in athletes becoming innocent\u00a0victims of actions of aggression outside of our sport, which have damaged in many ways the world wishes for peace.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0At the November 6, 2022, WBC Board of Governors meeting here in Acapulco, the WBC Board approved a resolution to remove all boxers from Russia and Belarus from the official WBC world ratings.<\/p>\n

    Any specific cases of nationals from the above-mentioned countries permanently residing in other countries, being citizens of other\u00a0countries, or living as refugees who have publicly rejected Russia’s actions in the current situation shall have the right to petition to the WBC to reconsider the application of the WBC\u2019s ruling to their particular case.<\/p>\n

    This measures in the WBC\u2019s Ruling are effective immediately, and will stay in effect until such time when Ukraine is able to resume their\u00a0normal\u00a0boxing \u00a0activity or when WBC\u2019s Board reevaluates the situation and modifies its ruling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
