Here are some of the fights which have made him the man and the champion of champions he is today.<\/p>\n

First WBC world title:<\/p>\n

In March 2011, Canelo faced England’s Matthew Hatton for the vacant WBC super welterweight belt, dominating the fight from start to finish. Great expectations fulfilled. Aged just twenty, the boxer’s career promised even greater plaudits.<\/p>\n

Knockout of James Kirkland:<\/p>\n

In May 2015, Sa\u00fal faced the American James Kirkland in Texas, a fight that only reached the third round, because Canelo knocked him out at 2:19. A blast furnace hot performance.<\/p>\n

Great fight against a legend:<\/p>\n

In 2015, six months after his victory over Kirkland, he faced Puerto Rican legend Miguel Cotto for the WBC Middleweight Championship and he didn`t disappoint. Canelo shook and took the unanimous decision victory in a great display of two top quality warriors.<\/p>\n

Another KO of the year:<\/p>\n

On May 7, 2016, Amir Khan bravely, audaciously and ambitiously challenged Canelo for the WBC middleweight title. With five consecutive victories he looked pretty good at first, with his rapid boxing and speed, but in the sixth round the Mexican, feinted a jab, and with the opening, he landed a devastating right hand. Lights out…and goodnight!<\/p>\n

Defeating Golovkin:<\/p>\n

After a draw in the first fight between Canelo and Golovkin, in 2018 , chapter two took place. To and fro, give and take. Youth, strength and the willpower which defines Saul, won the day. A decision victory on the judges’ scorecards. With this significant and hard fought brilliant win, Canelo established himself as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in his 50th victory as a professional.<\/p>\n

Crushing a Krusher:<\/p>\n

In November 2019, Canelo impressively knocked out Russian Sergey Kovalev, who towered over him in height and reach. It was a complicated light heavyweight fight for the Mexican, who used guile and patience. The opportunity came to pounce, in the 11th round, when he ruthlessly and clinically exploited a momentary lapse of concentration, which often comes with encroaching tiredness. Down went Kovalev, against the ropes, and but hard!<\/p>\n

The super middleweight title:<\/p>\n

After an inactivity for more than a year, Canelo returned to the ring in December 2020 against the lanky Liverpudlian Callum Smith, for the WBC super-middleweight title. Canelo found the formula to neutralize a rival with more height and greater distance, hitting him with power driving punches, which slowed and hurt him. Callum went the distance, but his left bicep was detached during the one-sided fight.<\/p>\n

Cleaning out the 168-pound division:<\/p>\n

Canelo Alvarez defeated previously undefeated Billy Joe Saunders in Arlington, Texas before 73,126 fans at AT&T Stadium on May 8, 2021. Southpaw Saunders, who`d demanded a larger ring, was told by Canelo that putting ropes around the entire stadium wouldn`t make a difference. Billy Joe felt the power of the Canelo onslaught when in the eighth round, he made a tactical mistake by dipping into an attack, only to be caught by an eye socket fracturing pinpoint right uppercut. Prior to the fight, he`d vowed never to quit, But wiser heads prevailed. For the sake of his current and future wellbeing, his corner decided he wasn`t coming out for the ninth.<\/p>\n

In November 2021, Canelo knocked out the last division champion he had on the list, the American Caleb Plant, who was skilful and initially elusive, but then dominated and overwhelmed.<\/p>\n
