The biggest seismic upset in modern boxing history!\u00a0 No one, gave James Buster Douglas any realistic chance of beating undefeated, undisputed Iron Mike Tyson, with the bookies contemptuously setting the odds at 42-1.\u00a0 Faith can move mountains, even the Catskills!\u00a0 Buster`s Mother Lula Pearl, who\u00b4s always believed in him through thick and thin, died 23 days before the fight. He`d solemnly promised her, he\u00b4d win the title for her… and so he did!\u00a0 \u00a0Kevin Rooney was no longer Mike\u00b4s coach or in his corner, and this proved a significant factor. Inspired as never before, or ever since, Buster used his jab and threw punches in bunches, wobbling Mike in the fifth with a short stunning right. <\/span><\/p>\n

By this time, Mike`s left eye was swelling badly. Yet…in the dying embers of the eighth, Mike unleashed a mighty right uppercut which dropped Buster. The time keeper immediatly started the count, but the Referee Octavio Meyran seemed out of sync. Buster got up at nine, and\u00a0 couple of seconds later.. the bell rang. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the ninth Buster fended off an onslaught from Mike, whose left eye was now swelled tightly shut. A four clip combination staggered Mike and he was under severe pressure, as the round ended. in the tenth Buster landed a big right to Mike\u00b4s face which momentarily froze him. Like a man possessed, Buster followed up with a four punch salvo, and Mike was on the canvass. <\/span><\/p>\n

He woozily\u00a0 fumbled for his mouth guard, lop sidedly\u00a0 jamming into one corner of his mouth and wobbled upright, to be counted out and “Ref hugged” for protection. The bubble of Mike Tyson`s invincibility had burst. Buster wept\u00a0 and credited his victory to Mum, sobbing: “God Bless her heart!”<\/span><\/p>\n
