Year of the Cat was immortalized in song by Al Stewart and now\u2026Hurrah, because 2021 was the year of Team Canelo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Saul \u201cCanelo\u201d Alvarez is the Boxing Writers Association of America\u2019s 2021 Fighter of the Year, after becoming the first undisputed super middleweight world champion, and the first Mexican boxer to become an undisputed champion in any weight division in the four-belt era.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saul wins the award for the second time in three years.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In winning the BWAA 2021 Sugar Ray Robinson Award, he \u00a0beat out a very noteworthy field which included: \u00a0Nonito Donaire, Stephen Fulton, Tyson Fury, Josh Taylor and Oleksandr Usyk. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>His \u00a0selection is a crowning glory \u00a0for Team Canelo, which held aloft \u00a0the BWAA\u2019s coveted triple crown by winning the BWAA\u2019s fighter, trainer and manager of the year awards for 2021. For the first time in BWAA history, Eddy Reynoso won dual awards as both the BWAA\u2019s 2021 Manager and Trainer of the Year.<\/span><\/p>\n

What was once a rare occurrence, the BWAA triple crown has been achieved for the fourth time in the last five years.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the trainer category, Reynoso won out over a distinguished class that included Carlos Castano, Javiel Centeno, Ben Davison and Anatoliy Lomachenko. In the manager field, which was the closest contested election, Reynoso won over Luis DeCubas, Rachel Donaire and Rick Mirigian.<\/span><\/p>\n

The World Boxing Council congratulates Eddy and Canelo, who have been working shoulder to shoulder, arm in arm and hand in hand \u00a0for many many years for now for being considered the FINEST Fighter of the Year and Trainer and Manager of The Year. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
