\u00a0<\/span>Known on the streets- as “China White”, “Friend”, “Goodfella”, “Jackpot”, among other names, fentanyl, has become the fastest and cheapest way for drug addicts to reach so called highs, similar to that of heroin, morphine and even cocaine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fentanyl is an extremely powerful opiate.\u00a0<\/span>Its strength and its effects are so immediate that for this reason it can generate a quick addiction, compared to heroin, which provides a longer, but less immediate sensation.<\/p>\n

Legal fentanyl is a narcotic used as an analgesic and anesthetic, that is normally used as a controlled-use medicine to treat patients with chronic pain or to help patients with cancer. In its prescription form, fentanyl is provided in injectable form, as a patch that is placed on the skin, or as a pill.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>However, the illegally produced fentanyl is most often mixed with heroin or cocaine making it even more deadly. Also called “Murder 8” it is distributed clandestinely as a powder, in containers of eye drops, nasal sprays or in pills imitating other opioids that are prescribed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Fentanyl acts, as does heroin, in areas of the brain that control pain and emotions, so that, when consumed repeatedly, the brain ends up adapting, decreasing sensitivity to the drug, so the user increases the dose.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of the effects of consuming fentanyl are:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Drowsiness<\/span><\/p>\n

Nausea and dizziness<\/span><\/p>\n

Confusion<\/span><\/p>\n

Difficulty breathing<\/span><\/p>\n

Loss of consciousness<\/span><\/p>\n

Dry skin<\/span><\/p>\n

Significant decrease in blood flow<\/span><\/p>\n

Sudden decrease in oxygen supply<\/span><\/p>\n

It is important to note that like any other opioid, fentanyl acts in areas of the brain that control the rate of respiration, which is why many users have lost their lives due to respiratory arrest.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, this drug is one of the most illicitly sought after, as it elicits\u00a0 pleasant effects in the short term, but above all because it is cheaper, since it is relatively simple. It can be mixed with other drugs such as heroin, cocaine and methamphetamines, making it much more potent, but also more lethal, being the cause of millions of deaths especially in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n
