Mauricio Sulaim\u00e1n talks about the new division: Bridgerweight<\/h2>\n

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaim\u00e1n, discussed the new division that the WBC recently created, called bridgerweight.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s specifically designed for boxers between 200 and 224 pounds.<\/p>\n

The first thing he clarified is that this name is inspired by the young \u00a0hero of humanity, Bridger Walker, who during the pandemic heroically saved his 4-year-old sister from an attack by a savage dog.<\/p>\n

He explained that the WBC has already added the new division to the official rankings and during the month of November, boxers who fight at cruiserweight and heavyweight will be notified about this new addition to confirm in which category they wish to be included.<\/p>\n

However, there will be a 6-month grace period to properly handle this new addition. He clarified that any fighter listed at Bridger weight can compete in the heavyweight division.<\/p>\n

He is aware that big changes always generate nervousness, but is convinced that this is a necessary step in our sport, since the most important thing is to take care of the boxer.<\/p>\n
