World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman says that the 58th Convention, which was held virtually, has proved an extraordinary success.<\/p>\n
The decision to go ahead with the online Convention happened, when it clearly became impossible to travel to St Petersburg, due to the ongoing pandemic.\u00a0 The figures speak for themselves.\u00a0 There were 5,540 attendees from 123 nations,\u00a0 280 champions past and present participated, interacting through the media rooms and there were lots of interviews.\u00a0 Great names including Tyson, De La Hoya, Fury, Canelo, Hagler and so many more, \u00a0including legendary promoter Don King, who is celebrating his 89th birthday today! There were 17 top talk shows, 26 press room conferences and 30 member room meetings.<\/p>\n
Maurico Sulaiman who`s been unanimously re-elected to serve as President of the WBC for another four years, is vowing to devote himself heart and soul to the job and vocation of dedication, placing safety for boxers as his number one priority.\u00a0 He thanked the Federations and the Governors for their confidence and total support.<\/p>\n
There was absolute transparency to show the world everything that was going on including the ratings and the mandatory defences sessions, which counted on the support and participation of more than forty promoters from all around the world.<\/p>\n
Aptly one of the innovations which will be tested this weekend is an elevated platform for judges, so they can have a better view of the all round action in the boxing matches, \u00a0in a similar way to the high chair panorama, open to the\u00a0world of tennis. The avowed aim is accuracy, total fairness and uniformity.<\/p>\n
The aim is to hold the next WBC Convention in Bangkok, Thailand in March, keeping a close eye on the developments with the pandemic.<\/p>\n
