Memorable farewell\u00a0for the GREAT “Mantequilla” Napoles<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Amidst cascading applause and the lilt of the music he so loved, Cuban-Mexican Jos\u00e9 \u00c1ngel N\u00e1poles Colombat, the two time former welterweight champion, received the last emotional goodbyes\u00a0during \u00a0the\u00a0\u00a0funeral procession, whose final destination was the \u00a0Dolores Pantheon, where his remains will rest.<\/p>\n

So fitting for an all time great Champion, as a Green and Gold WBC belt, was tenderly placed on the coffin and a flag of the ComBox of Mexico City fluttered in the bright sunshine.<\/p>\n

A sea of multiple floral ornaments arrived, including one from Britain`s \u00a0John Stracey, the rival who\u00a0defeated him the world crown in December 1975. But not before the Great One had decked him in the first round and fought a magnificent typically courageous battle. Still greatness in defeat.<\/p>\n

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaim\u00e1n Sald\u00edvar, Ciro Nucci, President of the capital ComBox, and Lorenzo Soberanes, Head of the Box Commission of Ciudad Ju\u00e1rez, joined the numerous members of Boxing`s Family\u00a0who \u00a0came to say a fond and emotional collective goodbye to\u00a0a\u00a0magnificent Champion, who`ll forever be remembered with awe, respect and love. Born Cuban, he was adopted by an adoring Mexico.<\/p>\n

Unity in grief but the greatest of pride, \u00a0with his son Jos\u00e9 Angel Napoles Palencia, and his grandson Angel N\u00e1poles, who are boxers, plus the nine grandchildren.<\/p>\n

A tremendously poignant and emotional moment, \u00a0when the family of Salvador S\u00e1nchez\u00a0arrived \u00a0to offer their very own condolences to the Napoles family, showing classy gratitude for the fact that “Mantequilla” attended\u00a0 most of the mourning anniversaries of “Sal” S\u00e1nchez.<\/p>\n

His life is over, but his legacy forever remains.<\/p>\n
