The long and short of it was that, undisputed flyweight queen, Gabriela Fundora, reaffirmed her dominance in women’s boxing by defeating Colombia\u2019s Viviana Ruiz Corredor\u00a0via an unhurried flurry.<\/div>\n

The bout, held at the iconic Honda Center, Anaheim, saw the undefeated American successfully defend her four world titles, including the prestigious WBC\u00a0belt, which is the jewel in the Crown.<\/div>\n

From the first bell, Fundora capitalized on her significant height and wingspan advantages. Utilizing and inflicting a sharp, persistent jarring jab, the champion dictated the tempo, clocking and keeping \u00a0the challenger at bay, as Ruiz struggled in vain, to find her range. In the long haul, it was mostly out of her reach.<\/div>\n

Ruiz Corredor attempted to be aggressive with quick bursts and lateral movement to bridge the gap, but she was repeatedly met by Fundora\u2019s probing surgical precision. The champion’s straight shots stifled every Colombian advance, turning into a display of absolute control. A maestra class.<\/div>\n

As the fight progressed, the accumulated punishment began to overwhelm the challenger. Fundora not only landed with greater frequency but her long-range combinations carried a mule kick power that left Ruiz increasingly confounded and befuddled.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
In round four, Ruiz walked into a hard counter right, followed by a left uppercut, which dropped her to the canvass. She bravely got up to beat the count, but there was little or no respite, or counter attack to mount.<\/div>\n

In the sixth round, following a series of clean unanswered shots that rocked and very nearly rolled the Colombian, the referee stepped in to halt the bout and protect the challenger’s physical integrity, declaring an official TKO. With this win, \u201cSweet Poison\u201d Fundora improves her perfect record to 18-0 (10 KOs), while Ruiz Corredor falls to 10-3.<\/div>\n

Better that her next rival is\u2026as Chuck Berry and the Beatles sang: \u201cLong Tall Sally.\u201d For this Fundora: \u201cThe fundamental things apply, as time goes by.\u201d<\/div>\n
