WBC Clean Boxing Program Adverse Analytical Finding – Jaime Mungu\u00eda<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>On May 28, 2025, VADA notified Jaime Mungu\u00eda and the WBC of an adverse analytical finding consistent with the exogenous origin presence of testosterone and its metabolites in a urine sample collected from him on May 4, 2025.\u00a0\u00a0The results of testing Mr. Mungu\u00eda’s B Sample contents confirmed the Adverse Finding. \u00a0Mr. Mungu\u00eda had never tested positive for any banned substance in any of the over 100 tests he had undergone during his boxing career.\u00a0So, the WBC considered the Adverse Finding to be a first offense.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0WBC\u00a0considered the\u00a0following\u00a0facts\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0extenuating\u00a0circumstances\u00a0with\u00a0respect\u00a0to\u00a0the measures\u00a0taken\u00a0in\u00a0his\u00a0case:(a)\u00a0Mr.\u00a0Mungu\u00eda\u00a0presented\u00a0a\u00a0large\u00a0portfolio\u00a0of evidence\u00a0in\u00a0support\u00a0of\u00a0his\u00a0position\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0Adverse\u00a0Finding\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0false\u00a0positive, including hair and nail sample testing as well as non-deceptive results of a polygraph test;\u00a0(b)\u00a0his\u00a0and\u00a0his team’s cooperative and forthcoming postures; and (c) he agreed to abide to the provisions of an Adjudication Agreement into which he and the WBC entered.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mungu\u00eda’s primary defense was that: (1) he had unintentionally and unknowingly consumed at least 4 supplements which were contaminated with pregnenolone; and (2) his unknowing ingestion of pregnenolone-contaminated supplements explained the Adverse Finding.<\/p>\n

There\u00a0are\u00a0scientific\u00a0papers,\u00a0some\u00a0of\u00a0which\u00a0Mr.\u00a0Mungu\u00eda\u00a0provided\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0WBC,\u00a0that\u00a0can be\u00a0interpreted as supporting his position.\u00a0However, there are also scientific publications that suggest that ingestion of pregnenolone is not considered a valid justification for Mr. Mungu\u00eda’s Adverse Finding.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0light\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0contrary\u00a0views\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0effect\u00a0of\u00a0ingesting\u00a0pregnenolone\u00a0in\u00a0an\u00a0adverse\u00a0analytical\u00a0finding using IRMS, the WBC Results Management considered Mr. Mungu\u00eda’s defense and\u00a0could not determine with reasonable certainty the ultimate causal source of the Adverse Finding.<\/p>\n

In the spirit of fair and expeditious resolution, the WBC and Mr. Mungu\u00eda agreed that Mr. Mungu\u00eda shall: (1) be place on probation for one (1) year from the date of the sample collection; (2) undergo additional random anti-doping testing during the probationary period at his own expense; (3) pay for and participate in a program designed and conducted by the WBC Nutrition Committee; and (4) be suspended indefinitely without further inquiry if he tests positive during his probationary period.<\/p>\n
