We remember Ultiminio Ramos 8 years after his death<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The first World Boxing Council champion, Ultiminio Ramos, who won the featherweight title in 1963 and possessed great knockout power, passed away 8 years ago.<\/p>\n

Ultimino passed away on September 3, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is loved by fans around the world and admired by his fellow champions.<\/p>\n

A cheerful, ingenious, and kind man outside the ring.<\/p>\n

Born on December 2, 1941 in Matanzas, Cuba, Ramos turned professional in Havana in 1957 before moving to Mexico after the revolution.<\/p>\n

Led by Cuco Conde and trained by Angelo Dundee, Ramos became an idol in his adopted country and reigned as world featherweight champion from 1963 to 1964.<\/p>\n

During his brilliant career he scored victories over Davey Moore (TKO 10), Rafiu King (W 15), Mitsunori Seki (TKO 6), Floyd Robertson (W 15) and Chango Carmona (TKO 7), among others.<\/p>\n

His powerful right hand allowed him to set a professional record of 55-7-4 (40 KOs). He retired from the ring in 1972.<\/p>\n

In 2001 Ramos was immortalized in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
