Donald Trump will become the 47th president of the United States of America after surpassing the 270 electoral votes necessary for his victory. Trump, 78, who will take office on January 20, 2025, is the first person to win two non-consecutive presidential terms since the 19th century.<\/p>\n

World champion Jack Johnson was the first Afro-American boxer to be crowned in the heavyweight division, at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1913 he was tried and sentenced to one year in prison; his crime was driving a car in the company of a white woman, precisely his wife, and crossing from one state to another. He had to flee the country, and upon his return, five years later, he was imprisoned and stripped of all his property. Johnson died in poverty in 1946, and was considered a criminal by American law.<\/p>\n

For decades, many attempts were made, under the leadership of Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and others, with the absolute and unconditional support of the WBC. The goal was to obtain a presidential pardon and clear the name of the great champion. The petition went through the Senate, and was on the desk of Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, and none granted the pardon.<\/p>\n

A final attempt was made in 2018, the WBC sent the pardon petition, and on this occasion, Sylvester Stallone took the case with passion, and it was on May 24, 2018 that Donald Trump granted the presidential pardon to Johnson, and the certificate was given to his granddaughter Linda Haywood, in an event in the Oval Office of the White House.<\/p>\n
