ITESM and WBC announce the creation of a Scientific Medical Committee<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and the World Boxing Council announce the creation of the ITESM \u2013 WBC Scientific Medical Committee.<\/p>\n

It will work on a multidisciplinary research program, as well as various educational and outreach activities, primarily mental health, nutrition, prevention of brain damage, personal finances, among many others aimed at improving the health and well-being of millions of people around the world who practice boxing at an amateur or professional level.<\/p>\n

Gathered at the facilities of the Mexico City Campus of the Monterrey Institute of Technology, Dr. Luis Herrera Montalvo, National Dean of the EMCS and Mauricio Sulaim\u00e1n Sald\u00edvar, WBC President, led the meeting in which this great alliance was announced, and which was attended by experts from the various departments of ITESM and the WBC Medical Committee.<\/p>\n

The guiding principle of the agreed scientific alliance will be the protection of the physical integrity of boxers and their optimal athletic development, through prevention protocols, risk assessment and safety measures, all with the application of health science resources to the advancement of knowledge and applied research in this field.<\/p>\n

Boxing is one of the sports disciplines with the greatest tradition in our country, especially among populations in social and economic vulnerability, which is why it is even more relevant to support the development of studies that help detect nutritional, physiological, psychological and medical risks early and positively impact the health of its practitioners.<\/p>\n

It is estimated that millions of people practice boxing around the world, many of whom begin in this discipline between eight and twelve years of age, which increases the risk factors for suffering adverse effects on their development. Therefore, the ITESM – WBC Medical Scientific Committee will also seek to obtain scientific evidence that makes boxing an increasingly safer discipline.<\/p>\n

The following specialists who will define the research and educational programs and projects were present at this meeting: Dr. Jose Carlos Crisp\u00edn, Dean of Research at EMCS, Dr. Oscar Arias Carri\u00f3n, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at EMCS, Dr. Floyd Ski Chilton, Distinguished Professor at EMCS, Dr. Alexandro Jos\u00e9 Martag\u00f3n, Research Professor at EMCS and of the Metabolic Diseases Research Unit at the Salvador Zubir\u00e1n National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition, Dr. Ricardo Monreal Molina, Dr. Enrique Aguilar, Dr. Armando Ahued, Dr. Victor Hugo Garc\u00eda Camacho and Dr. Enrique Ortega, members of the World Boxing Council Medical Committee.<\/p>\n
