Julio C\u00e9sar Mart\u00ednez vacates WBC flyweight title<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mexican Julio C\u00e9sar \u201cRey\u201d Mart\u00ednez has notified the World Boxing Council that he will vacate his WBC flyweight title, \u00a0to move up to the super flyweight division.<\/p>\n

Mart\u00ednez (21-2-2, 15 KO), who made seven successful defenses of his crown, fought his most recent bout on March 30 when he defeated the previously unbeaten Angelino Cordova from Venezuela, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.<\/p>\n

Rey, who is a popular and charismatic champion and a giant of the ring in the smaller divisions, commented:<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter careful reflection, I vacated the flyweight title to pursue new opportunities at super flyweight. This step will allow me to continue growing as a boxer and face new challenges. I am very grateful to the WBC for their support throughout my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

The WBC and its President Mauricio Sulaim\u00e1n wish Rey Mart\u00ednez the best of success and reiterate that doors are open for this new adventure in the super flyweight division.<\/p>\n
