Mexican American champion Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez overcame one of the toughest tests of his career against worthy and intrepid \u00a0contender \u00a0Jose “Chon” Zepeda, in \u00a0a great fight.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

An admirable and sustained effort in the \u00a0championship rounds, \u00a0led Ram\u00edrez to victory via a majority decision win, to retain his World Boxing Council super lightweight title for the second time, in front of more than 14,000 fans at the Save Mart Center.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The official cards were 114-114, 115-113 and 116-112. With a supreme \u00a0effort, Ram\u00edrez managed to win the last round on the cards of the three judges,,which proved decisive.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“He was a very strong and intelligent southpaw and \u00a0he came well prepared,” said Ram\u00edrez, adding: “He kept \u00a0good distance, that made it a tough and close fight, but I think I managed to secure victory in the final rounds. I connected with the most effective shots.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For his part, Zepeda said: “Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez is a great fighter, and his fans really motivated, giving him momentum.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As for what follows, Ram\u00edrez mentioned his desire to face the best of 140 pounds before moving up to the welterweight division.<\/p>\n
