Wind of change as the WBC turns 60!

We fondly remember that immortal phrase of our beloved Don José Sulaimán who once so aptly said that: “the years go by faster than the wind” so we gaze back and alertly look forward as the WBC, closes in on its sixtieth anniversary.

The World Boxing Council has changed forever the way boxing is seen and lived, as through these 60 years, we have sought in every possible way to make boxing great, but above all things focusing upon protecting the health and well-being of all boxers, above any interest, always promoting our values: loyalty, justice, integrity and respecting the social commitment that supports our history.

The WBC has been characterized since its foundation, as an organization that has tenaciously fought for the defense of human rights, non-discrimination and especially for a great vocation of service to those who need it very most. The splendid and unique legacy of our great leader Don José Sulaimán, “live to serve others,” was the greatest eternal teaching that he left us and with which today, his son and President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, lives his life and leads the WBC.

Six decades in which the WBC family has been constantly growing and where all its members -work and dedicate themselves with passion, commitment and complete dedication for our sport, guided by the ethos that: “Difficult things require a long time, and impossible feats a little longer” as André A. Jackson would say.

Sixty years that deserve a GREAT celebration, therefore, throughout 2023, we will be commemorating great boxing moments that occurred during these six decades, starting next January 22th, remembering the 50 years since George Foreman became WBC monarch in the biggest boxing division.

Together with you accompanying us we will take a trip back in time cataloging these years, where we have become pioneers, transforming, defining and dignifying the sport, but also, those who have intrepidly ventured to take a step beyond the ring and make the impossible possible, glorifying the banner of our beloved Green and Gold.
