The World Boxing Council used its tradition Martes a Café to celebrate International Women`s day a tad late, but in prompt spectacular style at the Gimnasio Coyocan.
It was the Great Life President of the World Boxing Council Jose Sulaiman, who championed Women`s Boxing and today`s WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman continues the work adding more determination and purpose. Mauricio announced that from now on, the word female champion will not be on WBC belts, because being champion has its singular merits, regardless of gender. The podium was taken by women sporting stars and Wife of Mauricio, Christiane Manzur, who leads WBC Cares in Mexico. Her Husband was relegated to the audience… at a slightly lower and more humble level.
Almost all of the greats of Mexican Women`s Boxing attended this event. Elisa Salinas who`s President of the Women`s project, thanked the WBC for this opportunity for a magnificent forum. She said there have been calls for justice for women in the ring and in the arena of international sports, but also applauds men, cautioning their should be no bullying in sports training. Like partner and like mother it`s all about behavior and humanity in different and upcoming generations. The man must demonstrate that he is a good and worthy partner and the key is education, because for women it`s not a question of brawn and muscle.
Equity Consultant Angelica Gonzalez urged the participation of all in these efforts: “We must do this together. Don`t shout at women, rather speak up for something which is worth while. Participation to achieve dreams and experiment towards potential.”
Christiane Manzur explained that it`d taken a factory accident which killed one hundred and nine people in 1908, for overdue yet enabling legislation to protect them a year later. And Boxing has provided another revolutionary opportunity women. An ongoing fight for better recognition. Rather like when Michelle Obama was greeted in a restaurant by a fan who significantly didn`t show the same enthusiasm for her husband, who happened to be President of the United States.
At an event which recognizes equity and equity, there was a huge round of applause for Mexico`s Special Olympics Team. And an ovation for wunderkind boxing sensation Fanny Martinez who did a couple of rounds on the pads with former WBC minimumweight champion and now ace trainer Issac “Tortas” Bustos. Truly La Nina De Oro!
Jackie Nava, who`s been a Federal Deputy as well as her other achievements said the future lies with children in the classroom and for respect, giving women the same opportunities at the same time which is empowering. Mariana Juarez said it`s her work to achieve her dreams, stressing that economic stability bring peace of mind, while hankering after the same sort of pay days which Canelo Alvarez enjoys. And the opportunities the Olympics are brining to Women`s Boxing. She stressed it`s not so much about women or men, but so much more about HUMANITY.
