WBC TALKS, ROUND 30: “Coffee Tuesday” Spanish Speaking Panel

Resuming the traditional “Coffee Tuesday” President of the WBC, Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán spoke with the Latino specialized press to discuss different topics, especially the launch of the beautiful “Mazahua Belt” that the organization, officially announced last Saturday.

Everyone was very honored with the presence of a very special guest who today celebrates 47 years of having conquered the featherweight division by defeating another historical fighter, José Legrá. None other than the great Eder Jofre, who linked via internet from Brazil.

The legendary fighter received a tremendous ovation from his boxing family, but especially from the WBC President who sent great good wishes and a virtual hug that he hopes he can deliver in person when all this concludes.

Then the display of the “Mazahua -May 5, 2020” belt, a jewel created by artisan hands of the Mazahua culture , from the State of Mexico.

He explained that the belt is the result of the synergy between design and Mexican embroidery. The creative, able and nimble hands of Angélica and Lilia Reyes Martínez, artisans, originally from the community of San Felipe Santiago, in Villa de Allende, both created the piece, working for a month, encompassing more than 250 hours.

At this point the sisters Angélica and Lilia patiently described what it was like for them to work on this magnificent piece. They confided that when they started working on the belt they never imagined the final result, but they were pleasantly surprised and delighted. A labor of heart and soul captured on the belt. They commented that each one worked around 8 or 10 hours a day to make a total of 400 and although they never did anything similar, it was a personal challenge that once fulfilled, left them with great satisfaction.

The center of the belt is formed by a Teotihucán obsidian plate as a smoking mirror that carries Tezcaltlipoca among its attributes. This mirror is adorned by the indigenous symbols of the stars such as: the Sun, the stars, the moon and the constellations. Gonzalo and Romina, from the Rubicó Art Gallery, were in charge of designing this unique piece that represents the warrior, his fortress for battle and a symbol of night power. Mauricio Sulaiman thanked all those who made everything possible to create this belt: Industria Reyes and the Government of the State of Mexico.

Analyzing all possible options, the WBC will announce the final destination of the Mazahua belt in the next few days, explaining that this work of art may be prize for the brave heroes who are fighting on the front lines against the COVID-19 virus, courageously saving lives.

On other issues, Mr. Sulaimán explained that the WBC designed a security protocol for promoters and federations who wish to reactivate boxing activity, clarifying that it must be behind closed doors, with the minimum of people.

Do not miss a detail of everything that happened during this “Coffee Tuesday” and enjoy this traditional conference.
