WBC Ring Officials Masterclass with Duane Ford and Mauricio Sulaiman

World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman and WBC Director of the Ring Officials Committee Duane Ford hosted today a masterclass for ring officials through the WBC University platform.

During the session, Sulaiman and Ford reviewed fundamental concepts and introduced the newest WBC Judges’ card. This card is designed to unify scoring criteria by using categories: Close, Moderate, Decisive, and Extremely Decisive.

The WBC Enhanced Scoring System was also addressed. This system, which has been implemented during the Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix, assigns numerical values to each category (Close, Moderate, Decisive, and Extremely Decisive). This allows for a winner to be determined in the event of a draw by adding the numerical scores of the rounds and categories won by each boxer.

The masterclass also demystified common misconceptions about scoring, discussed the key elements for scoring a round, and addressed the influence of social media on ring officials.
