Hours expended and extended as the World Boxing Council ploughed through the ratings, fighting off the pangs of hunger and missing lunch.
Promoters managers, representatives and the like, fervently argued the case why their fighter should rise up in the numbers. Mostly reason and courtesy, and alacrity and good humor prevailed. Only occasional irritation and frustration creeping in, taking a grip, albeit momentarily.
In the heavyweight division ninth ranked Zhan Kossobutskly and eighth Otto Wallin swooped places.
Bridgerweight: Elvis García is back in the rankings at fifteen. This was approved.
Cruiserweight: Ryan Rozicki moves from eleven to nine. Yunier Dorticos is at ten.
Light heavyweight: no changes.
Super middleweight: Carlos Gongora moves from ten, up one place. William Scull drops from nine to ten.
Middleweight: no changes.
Super welterweight: Charles Cornwell is now at five. Serhii Bohachuk is now six. At this point Don Majeski is presented with his Lifetime achievement award by Robert Lenhardt.
Welterweight: Conor Benn who failed two drug tests is out of the rankings. He had been at number five.
Super lightweight: the clash for the vacant tile between Regis Prograis and Chon Zepeda is in two weeks which will change things.
Lightweight: Edwin de los Santos moves moves up to eleven.
Super featherweight: No change.
Featherweight: Ditto.
Super bantamweight: Ra’eese Aleem moves from six to five.
Bantamweight: if Naoya “Monster” Inoue moves up a division, then first ranked Jason Moloney will fight number two ranked Nonito Donaire for the title left vacant. Nonito asked to be placed number one, but this was politely declined. Both Jason and Nonito were on hand at the meeting, behaving as true sportsmen.
Super flyweight: No change.
Flyweight: Former champion Cristofer “The Whip” Rosales moves up to six.
Light Flyweight: No changes.
Shadows were lengthening after a long afternoon. Some promoters had greeted the Committee with breezy good morning, when high noon had come and gone. It was that sort of blockbuster session where the character of human nature is often laid bare.
