The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán, mourn the death of Curtis Cokes, Dallas’ first world champion and the undisputed soul of the city’s boxing scene for more than a half-century
Cokes had been in hospice for a week and passed away today of heart failure at 82.
Curtis held the world welterweight title from 1966 to 1969 and was Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003.
The entire WBC family prays to God to give his family and many friends, solace at this so sad time, balanced with the balm of tremendous memories of a fantastic man and a great fighter, who won`t be forgotten.
