There was a fire at the home of talented Argentine amateur boxer Dayana Sánchez, who represented the Argentine national team, and this blaze happened in the Juan Pablo II neighborhood of Córdoba.
Much of her property was destroyed. But even worse, Dayana suffered burns all over her body when she was trapped in her room. A neighbor was the one who rescued her unconscious, amidst the flames of the bed where she was sleeping. an act of extraordinary bravery and resourcefulness.
Dayana who has shown tremendous bravery in spite of her severe injuries, spent more than a month in the hospital. More than ten days of which was in a coma, before being discharged in late August.
Dayana remained at the Burn Institute all that time, and for a few weeks she has continued her recovery at her family’s home.
The boxer’s story and destiny began at the age of 10, boxing from this young age. At the age of 14 she made her debut in the ring, thanks to a special permit from the Cordoba Box Federation, because the minimum age necessary was 15 years. That debut was with victory.
In 2014 she won the silver medal at the ODESUR Games in Chile. In 2015 she won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto. And in October 2017. Dayana participated in the Central American Elite Championship and the V International Women’s Elite Cup “Lic. Carlos Velázquez”, she won the gold medal.
In 2018 Dayana was part of the Argentine delegation at the ODESUR Games in Bolivia. At the 2019 Pan American Games, she won the silver medal in the 60 kilogram category.
For some time, Dayana Sanchez has been teaching classes at a cultural and social center in Córdoba. Her students who adore, admire and look up to her, have sent her multiple messages and cards of affection during her recovery.
Dayana Sanchez was the recipient of expressions of affection from many people in Argentina and throughout the entire world. All of this with the support and constant love of her family who took care of her day after day. Her sister Leonela, another talented boxer who was part of the team, was in charge of informing loved ones about Dayana’s health.
She now begins the main stage of her recovery. Dayana will draw upon her fitness, but even more importantly the strength and resilience of her character. The toughest tests are the mind games which a fighter must overcome. that is the essence which forms and reinforces a champion
The World Boxing Council, through its President Mauricio Sulaiman, immediately arranged help from the Jose Sulaiman Fund, in support of the young and immensely brave Argentine.
WBC Cares, the organization’s social charity program, which is responsible for accompaniment in times involving all kinds of problems, also actively participated in the logistics.
The financial support was made effective through Marcos Arienti, a member of the WBC, who was responsible for taking the fund in person to Córdoba.
