World Boxing Council welterweight champion Shawn Porter (29-2-1, 17 KO) will defend his crown against Cuban Yordenis Ugas (23-3, 11 KO) on March 9th at an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Porter became champion in September by defeating former champion Danny Garcia in what was a very competitive action-packed fight. Danny was ranked # 1, while Porter ranked # 2 in the WBC ratings…back then.
Ugas will not be an easy opponent for the champion, since he has great experience in amateur boxing, winning an Olympic medal in Beijing 2008, as well as several tournaments worldwide.
Both fighters know each other well because they sparred when the Cuban was preparing for his fight against Levan Ghvamichava in February 2017.
