WBC Convention blessed by The Pope
His Holiness Pope Francisco sent a blessing from the Vatican to the WBC Convention in Uzbekistan and it’s contributed to the tremendous success of the weeklong event.
President Mauricio Sulaiman was closing the Convention, as Mike Tyson strode into the main Conference Hall. An electric atmosphere that only a superstar can generate came alive with a buzz. Group photos with the Champ followed.
Prior to this the WBC Muay Thai report. The phenomenal success of Muay Thai
is the fulfillment of a promise made in 2004 by Don José Sulainan and General Kovid to the then King of Thailand, to transform its reach to span and encompass the Globe. It’s now established in 101 countries.
During this last year a tournament of five thousand people in Thailand creating a Guinness Record. Then a magnificent tournament in Venice.
The Medical Committee highlighted concerns of unsafe practices by an irresponsible few in weight management through the highly dangerous practice of water loading, saturating plus weakening the body.
There are plans to create a mental health clinic to help with the intense pressures many fighters face and to remove the stigma of highlighting this problem and seeking help. Governor Frank Hadley asked the WBC University to create a department for mental health.
The WBC is firmly adhering to ten rounds, each fought over two minutes for women boxers. President Mauricio Sulaiman stressed that what happens in the ring has the potential to affect a person for the rest of their life. Safety will always be the paramount priority. Mauricio stressed the wisdom of this can be seen in the fact that no one WBC woman boxer suffers from blurred speech problems.
