World Boxing Council flyweight champion, Julio César “Rey” Martínez, will defend his crown against Welsh “Dragon” Jay Harris, in Frisco, Texas, on February 29.
“Rey” Martinez prepares full steam ahead in San Diego, California, in the gymnasium of “Canelo” Alvarez, guided by his coach Mauricio Aceves and his representative Eddy Reynoso.
This will be the first defense of the world title he won by TKO’ing Nicaraguan Cristofer Rosales; and the bout against Harris will be the third fight he has against a British rival.
”We are having a great preparation. Every day we get up to run from very early, so his routine begins. And then we go to the gym. Thank God everything goes according to plan and everything goes perfectly, ”Aceves said.
“We have already defeated Andrew Selby, Charlie Edwards and now we are going to face Harris, who is a complicated opponent with a difficult style. We have studied Harris well, he is a fighter who likes to come forward. He wants to trade blows. We are prepared for everything Harris presents on the day of the fight.”
