COVID-19 has taken more members of my boxing family.
Thursday, it was Jimmy Glenn, and now it’s that beloved businessman & photographer Victor Pei passed. Victor was a man who believed in giving, not receiving.
He gave far more of himself than he ever received or wanted to receive. Roni & I looked forward to sharing a table with Victor & his wife, Maria, at this September’s NY State Boxing Hall of Fame Awards.
He went into Columbia Presbyterian Hospital three weeks ago & never came out. He was 65. Victor, Jimmy Glenn is waiting for you. He’ll introduce you to Ali, Frazier & all the fighters you always wanted to meet. I am going to paraphrase a line that Jimmy Cannon wrote about Joe Louis: Victor Pei was a credit to his race…the Human Race. The hearts of us in the boxing world in New York & NJ are broken.
