The WBC, hand in hand with Eunice Rendón, has worked for more than 9 years with the population in prisons and social reintegration centers.
There’s the firm intention of using boxing as a tool to change destinies. People deprived of liberty find in boxing a new course for their lives, focusing and disciplining them.
Under this dynamic, the second edition of the “Golpes de Libertad” Tournament began on August 10 and on this occasion the person in charge of organizing and supervising the actions was Mr. Alfonso Picasso, who had a more than outstanding participation.
After several dates and stages, the grand finale was held this Friday, August 25, with extraordinary fights that were broadcast live.
For this edition of the tournament, 32 fighters from 11 Social Rehabilitation centers in the State of Mexico participated, run by the Mexican Secretary of Security.
First, the round of 32 was held with the participation of 32 fighters from the Texcoco, Tenango del Valle, Tenancingo Sur, Chalco, Otumba, Zumpango, Santiaguito, Neza Bordo, Cuautitlán, Tlalnepantla and Ecatepec prisons. The categories were light, welterweight, mosdle and light heavy.
It should be noted that the first places and winners of the tournament in the different divisions received WBC Amateur medals and belts.
Alfonso Picasso, coordinator of the second Freedom Strikes, attended our Coffee Tuesday to relate the details of this successful initiative.
“We want to continue helping the community. The population in penitentiary centers has been relegated and through this initiative we have had the opportunity to do our bit so that they do not relapse again ”
Of all the finalists, no one had access to higher secondary education. It is our mission to make this reality a fairer one and through boxing we have been able to help.
We believe that everyone deserves a second chance and we are very proud of what has been achieved in this second edition of Coups de Libertad.
Maurico Sulaimán commented on it
“What they have done as a family is a wonderful thing. Congratulations on what you have achieved with this project.
We especially congratulate all of you who made this beautiful tournament possible. From now on, we will continue to work hard for the benefit of society.
