Today, the World Boxing Council gathered at “Sports & Chips” in the south of Mexico City to commemorate and celebrate International Women’s Day.
The mission of the World Boxing Council has always been to ensure the welfare, safety and justice of all its members. For this reason, our dear Don José, fought decades to implement women’s boxing despite of the resistance of many.
Since then, the WBC has become a pioneer, guardian and champion of women’s boxing and although we know that there is still much to be done, we are proud of the path we have built alongside great champions.
It has been a complicated path in which prejudices have been torn down and new realities have been built. We are still learning, but as long as we have our champions in our corner who guide and lead the process, we know that we will continue to create and promote a fairer and more equitable sport for all those who get into the ring with the intention of conquering glory and giving their families a better life.
Our champions had the opportunity to give inspirational messages to our entire community.
Irma García: Today we commemorate the struggle of all women who seek to build a better world. We all seek the same thing. We must stay united in the search for equity.
María Elena Villalobos: We have no limits. I found sisters in this sport and I am very proud of all of them. It has not been easy, but we have been paving the way for ourselves and for future boxers.
Jessica González: I ask all women to never stop fighting for their dreams and to never accept violence in any form. I recognize all my colleagues and companions in the boxing world because I know that their path has not been easy. I also want to remember my dear friend Andrea Cortina, who was taken from us a few years ago. It is something that we do not deserve, and we should not let it continue to happen.
Barby Juárez: Women give everything, inside and outside the ring. We just want to move forward and grow together in a better world.
Zulina Muñoz: I thank everyone who supported me to build this platform. What we do is not only for us, but for future boxers. They deserve a better sport.
Lulu Juárez: It has been a pride for me to share the ring with great women. I am very proud of what we do every day. I ask you all to never stop fighting for your dreams and what you believe in.
