The WBC wishes Mares a speedy recovery
Former world champion Abner Mares, revealed that he suffered a retinal detachment of his right eye, so he had to cancel the fight he had agreed with American Gervonta Davis.
“Boxing is not easy, it’s a cruel sport, on Wednesday during sparring, I got hit in the eye and I felt the pain, but I kept boxing. I did another sparring session on Friday and it got very red. I started seeing some flashes, cloudy vision, I told my wife and she told me to go see the doctor. My idea was to do sparring on Monday, but my wife insisted, we went to the specialist and they told me it was retinal detachment,” explained the diesppointed three-time Mexican champion on his social networks
Abner said he will return stronger than ever, and apologizing to his fans: .”I want to thank God first and above all my wife for taking me to the specialist, Dr. Steven Stein Schreiber, God only knows why things happen. I promise I will come back stronger than ever.”
Abner had a similar process in the past, even without being a world champion. President of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman Saldivar, and the entire WBC Family sends its very best wishes for the prompt and total recovery of our former world champion Abner Mares.
