The boxing family has received the very sad news about the death of Maestro Oscar Ponzanelli, a notable Mexican sculptor famed throughout the world.
Oscar was in charge of countless busts that are intended to eternally remember artists, leaders, celebrities and great people such as: Armando Manzanero, Juan Gabriel, Roberto Cantoral, which can be found in Paseo de los Compositores in Chapultepec, Mexico City.
He also created monuments in honor of José Alfredo Jiménez, Javier Solís, Belisario Domínguez, Winston Churchill, Alexander Von Humboldt, Diego Armando Maradona, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Benito Juárez, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Mahatma Gandhi, His Holiness John Paul II, among so many others.
Under the leadership of the World Boxing Council and Riyadh Season, Mr. Ponzanelli created a beautiful sculpture of Sylvester Stallone. The bust was unveiled in the state of Guerrero at the beginning of August this year as a tribute to the iconic scenes that Stallone filmed in this region.
Maestro Óscar Ponzanelli leaves us an enormous and wondrous cultural and artistic legacy. His memory and brilliant talent are immortalized in the many busts he created during his fabulous career.
The entire WBC Family and its President Mauricio Sulaimán send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Óscar Ponzanelli during these difficult times.
